The word Ayurveda is made of the two root words i.e. 'Ayu' means Life; and 'Veda' denotes Science (or the way). Thus, Ayurveda is defined as 'the Science of life'. Ayurveda deals with the promotion of the health status of the healthy individuals along with the cure from the ailments. Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that uses herbs and oils along with a number of preparations to heal and rejuvenate. Essentially, Ayurveda postulates that the five basic elements (ether, air, fire, water and earth) are linked to the five senses and these in turn shape the nature of an individual's constitution. The purpose of Ayurveda treatment is to restore the balance in the human body and thus providing good health.
